How our method works

Many children understand Spanish but they don't use it.
They reply in English, hesitate, or avoid speaking altogether.
This happens because speaking is not actively developed.

At Bilingual Roots, we focus on one key idea:

Understanding is not enough — children need structured opportunities to speak.

Why this matters

If speaking is not developed early, many children remain passive bilinguals for years.

They understand Spanish...but don't feel comfortable using it.

A clear path to Speaking

Our method is built around three stages that guide children from understanding to active use of Spanish.

1. Explorers

Children begin using Spanish with support.

•Simple choice-based questions
•One-word responses
•Focus on building first words

2. Builders

Children start combining words into phrases.

•Use of basic sentence structures (e.g., “quiero ___”)
•Short phrases
•Focus on verbs and sentence patterns

3. Storytellers

Children express ideas more independently.

•Sentence expansion
•Responding to open-ended questions
•Building confidence in speaking

How we help children to speak

We don’t wait for children to speak — we actively guide them step by step.

In every session, we use:

• Simple choice-based questions
• Sentence frames (e.g., “quiero ___”)
• Guided repetition in different contexts

From single words to full sentences- step by step.

What a session looks like

Each session follows a clear structure:

•  Review of familiar language
•  Introduction of new words (6–10 per session)
•  Guided speaking practice
•  Repetition through games and activities
•  Positive closing

How progress Happens

With consistent exposure and practice, many children:

•  Begin responding with words
•  Move into short phrases
•  Build simple sentences

Every child progresses at their own pace, but the path is clear.

The Role of the families

Small, consistent moments at home make a big difference.
We provide simple ways for families to reinforce Spanish through daily routines — no advanced Spanish required.
